How to Help Students (and others) Process the Presidential Election and Its Aftermath

With the complexity of the election and its outcome and the follow-on efforts to transition power from one leader to the next, students need strategies and activities to help them understand what is occurring. They may not have easy outlets in which to share their feelings, express their concern or demonstrate their lack of understanding. We need teachers who can skillfully introduce non-partisan efforts to enable students to manage all that is occurring with respect to the just completed Presidential election. These activities can be adapted for students of all ages and stages. The key message running through all of them: enable students to dialogue about the election and reflect more thoughtfully on the results and the steps ahead for our nation.
